What launched
On 3 September the Dubai Land Department launched Initial Registration, a digital platform for developers. It brings together three steps that used to run separately: registering a new project, registering the sales in it, and managing the project's escrow account with the bank that holds it. It uses artificial intelligence to check submissions and cut repeat documents and data entry.
Why it matters to you
Your off-plan payments go into the project's escrow account. When the project, its sales and that account sit in one record shared by the developer, the Land Department and the bank, there is less room for gaps between what is sold and what is paid in, and problems show up sooner.
Our read
It is one more step towards a market that is easy to trust from abroad, where most off-plan buyers are. It does not replace the checks on the project itself.
